The Patriarchal and Stavropegial Monastery of Saint Olav the King and Prophet Elijah the Tishbite is a canonical Orthodox Convent of the Patriarchate of Georgia. It was founded upon request of the Valldal Municipality.
The Monastery follows the Eastern Orthodox tradition of Monasticism in its daily program, with common prayers, meals, and work. Daily Services include Matins and Divine Liturgy in the morning and Vespers and Compline in the evening. The Monastery welcomes Pilgrims as well as seekers. The Monastery is home to all Orthodox Christians.n addition to offering hospitality to each person who visits the Holy Monastery with Christian love and openly witnessing to our faith in Christ for the salvation of our souls, we translate Orthodox Church Services and texts of the Church Fathers into Norwegian.
Our other tasks include ecclesiastical handicraft: sewing monastic clothing and priests' vestments, embroidery, byzantine iconography, traditional silverwork, candle-making, healing balms and soaps, gardening, farming, and felting. In the summer, the Monastery hosts camps for children with special needs.
